Maltego should only touch systems you are authorized to test. That includes passive tools: if it collects data, hits a service, or reads credentials, you need explicit scope before it runs.

1. Where Maltego Fits in a Defender's Workflow

The role here is "OSINT graph analysis / relationship mapping." That scoping matters. A triage tool used as an investigation tool produces the wrong level of depth; an investigation tool used as a monitoring tool burns analyst time. Pick the right phase, then pick the tool.
